The adventures of two roving journalists, Becky, a sophisticated blonde (Priscilla Barnes), and Amy, a guileless brunette (Debra Clinger), who go wherever their producer, Casey (David Spielberg), sends them. They travel by van, while Casey sits anxiously next to a telephone in New York wondering what kind of hot scoops—and hot water—his American girls will fall into this time. The ladies work for a New York City-based TV newsmagazine.

It peaked at number 26 on the US alternative rock chart. The song impacted radio on May 11, 2010. In its album review, Rolling Stone wrote: “'Last of the American Girls' comes on as a fabulous left-wing love song to a rebel girl — when Armstrong sings, 'She won't cooperate,' he's giving her the highest compliment he can imagine.” The song is playable in the video game Green Day: Rock Band.
